Patterson Dental/Dentaire is the new Canadian distributor of the Canary xystem, a photothermal caries-detection device manufactured by Quantum Dental Technologies.
The Canary system is a low-powered laser-based tool designed to detect early tooth decay. Developed by researchers at the University of Toronto, the Canary uses frequency-domain photothermal radiometry and modulated luminescence technology to scan each tooth with low-power diode laser energy, measuring both the luminescence and the heat released from the tooth to identify the extent of decay.
