A Silicon Valley start-up is developing a universal photoadapter that can connect an iPhone 4 or 4S to optical instruments such as binoculars, telescopes, and microscopes, according to an article by Medgadget.
The Magnifi, developed and marketed by Arcturus Labs, could also help endodontists observe the roots of teeth after drilling. The images can be viewed by multiple parties on another screen or over the Internet via services such as Skype. These applications could also be utilized in classroom settings, according to the company.
Isaac Penny, one of the device's developers, was inspired by a trip to Africa, where many doctors didn't have access to laptops or PCs but had cellphones, which they used to take photos and document cases.
The company plans to sell the Magnifi for about $80, according to other news reports.
