For the second time in a week, Biolase Technology announced a new addition to its patent portfolio for dentistry.
On April 14, the company was awarded U.S. Patent No. 7,697,814, which relates to its new handpiece with spatially controllable output energy distributions for teeth whitening and pain management, the company said. The handpiece is used with the Biolase family of diode laser systems.
The patent has broad coverage for a therapeutic laser handpiece applicable to the ezlase, Diolase, and iLase, the company said. The specific therapeutic applications covered by the claims are listed below:
