The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is accepting applications for the International Research Scientist Development Award to research scientists for mentored research career development focused on global health.
The award provides support and protected time of three to five years to advanced postdoctoral (at least two years beyond conferral of doctoral degree) U.S. research scientists for an intensive, mentored research career development experience leading to an independent research career focused on global health, according to the NIH.
Eligibility requirements include the following:
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens who hold a research or health-professional doctoral degree and have at least two years of research experience beyond receipt of their doctoral degree.
- Individuals who have already received independent research funding are not eligible for the award.
- Awardees must spend a minimum of 50% of the grant period physically in-country conducting research at the low- and middle-income country (LMIC) institution and must have both U.S. and LMIC mentors.
- Applicants should demonstrate that they are committed to an independent research career in global health, and justify the need for up to five years of mentored research experience to become an independent research scientist.
The experience will be in a low- and middle-income country as defined by the World Bank. Low-income, lower-middle-income, and upper-middle-income countries are included.
Applications are invited from biomedical, epidemiological, clinical, biostatistical, social, and behavioral scientists in the formative stages of their research careers.
