Dr. Damazo, from North Bend, WA, has provided dental services to people living in remote villages along the Amazon for the past 45 years, according to the ADA. He developed and implemented a mobile clinic that provides free, modern care to people living in the bush areas of Kenya and Tanzania.
The award includes a bronze statue and a $5,000 donation to the dental charity or project of Dr. Damazo's choice.
The award recognizes dentist members who have distinguished themselves by outstanding leadership and at least a 10-year commitment to their fellow human beings in the field of dentistry, through the dedication of time and professional skills to improve the oral health of underserved populations in the U.S. and abroad.
