The Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation is accepting grant applications from Virginia nonprofit organizations seeking funding for initiatives to improve oral health. Applications are being accepted now through September 30, 2014, and grants will be awarded in December.
The foundation's focus is to award grants to programs that emphasize access to care, education, or research and have a significant impact with sustainable solutions. Funding is provided for new initiatives, to sustain ongoing treatment of existing programs, start-up funding, or one-time events. Types of projects eligible for funding are those that continue or expand dental treatment services, or provide dental equipment or supplies for dental safety-net clinics, oral health education materials or programs, fluoride varnish applications, and fluoride equipment.
Organizations eligible to receive grants include any public agency or private nonprofit with a 501(c)(3) tax exemption, organizations with a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt fiscal sponsor, or any applicant for federal tax exemption under 501(c)(3).
In 2013, the foundation awarded grants totaling $716,000 to recipients who were able to provide dental care to more than 8,124 children and 21,528 adults who had previously been unable to access care.
