According to a new study in the journal Cancer, patients with head and neck cancer who received intensity-modulated radiation therapy had better survival rates than those who received conventional radiation treatment -- the first indication of a survival benefit for the more complex technique. With states' laws changing about marijuana usage, dentists may be seeing more patients who use it. A new study in Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers & Prevention found that marijuana smokers have an elevated risk of oropharyngeal cancer but a reduced risk of oral tongue cancer. But the study authors noted that oral human papillomavirus infection could explain the increased risk of oropharyngeal cancer among marijuana smokers.
