Fluoroscopy coming to dentistry? And, teeth-whitening studies from IADR

Can a 100-year-old medical imaging technology find new fame and fortune in the dental field? A dentist who has spent the last decade developing a fluoroscopic imaging system for use in dentistry is working to make that happen.

Having successfully demonstrated a proof-of-concept prototype and gained some key technology patents, he and his start-up company are now looking to begin clinical testing with an eye toward gaining regulatory clearance in the next two to three years. Meanwhile, in Cosmetics Community news, three studies examining the efficacy of teeth-whitening products in various delivery modalities were presented at the recent 2013 International Association for Dental Research (IADR) meeting in Seattle. One study tested a new whitening dentifrice, while the others compared take-home and in-office systems and two common in-office whitening products, respectively.
