Mich. dental survey highlights Medicaid issues; the upside of sugar-free lollipops

The vast majority of dentists in Michigan provide free or discounted care to low-income children and adults, according to a survey released this week by the Michigan Dental Association.

While the findings are admirable, they also underscore a fundamental problem with the state's Medicaid program: underfunding. Read more in this latest Practice Management Community report.

Meanwhile, over in the Cosmetics Community, whitening strips containing less hydrogen peroxide but applied for a longer period of time were more effective than those containing more hydrogen peroxide but applied for less time, according to a new study in the Journal of Dentistry.

Finally, sugar-free lollipops infused with the licorice root extract glycyrrhizol A have been shown to be effective in inhibiting three prominent oral pathogens, according to research presented at the recent International Association for Dental Research annual meeting.
