AmeriCares has launched a $500,000 U.S. Disaster Recovery Initiative to aid survivors of Hurricane Irene and other recent storms affecting the East Coast, Midwest, and the South.
AmeriCares will award grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 for projects in the health sector with an emphasis on medical and dental care for the uninsured, mental health and psychosocial support services, and preparedness for future disasters.
AmeriCares emergency response experts were in close contact with free healthcare clinics and emergency management officials in eight states with offers of medical aid, emergency relief supplies and other assistance both in advance of Hurricane Irene and throughout the weekend when it made landfall along the East Coast.
AmeriCares will award funding on a first-come, first-served basis through October 31, 2011 for a range of major emergencies that have taken place since February 1, 2011.
A nonprofit, AmeriCares aids survivors of natural disasters, political conflict, and extreme poverty around the world and across the U.S.
