5 states battle over dental therapists; CBCT training lacking

As the first group of dental therapists prepares to graduate in June and make its way into Minnesota's most underserved communities, other states are battling over proposed legislation that would allow them to follow in Minnesota's footsteps.

In fact, despite the backing of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and other advocacy groups, several state-based efforts to develop midlevel provider programs have so far met with keen opposition, with proposed bills in five states either stalled, dead, or not yet on the table. Meanwhile, in Imaging & CAD/CAM Community news, dental schools in the U.S., U.K., and Australia are beginning to adopt cone-beam CT technology into their curricula, but few currently provide training to predoctoral and undergraduate students, according to research presented at the recent American Dental Education Association meeting.
