In the wake of last week's massive earthquake in Haiti, the dental community has been mobilizing to bring aid and relief to thousands of injured and displaced.
In fact, one oral surgeon -- Gary Raska, D.D.S., of St. Louis -- was so moved by our story about Dr. Kanyon Keeney, a fellow oral surgeon who hopes to be in Haiti by week's end, that he contacted us to get in touch with Dr. Keeney and hopefully join him on his latest mission. We'll keep you posted on their efforts.
If you would like to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake, a number of dental and medical missions are preparing to travel there in the coming weeks and months, including the Baudin Dental Mission, the Cap Haitien Dental Institute, the Haiti Medical Mission, and DDS4kids. There are also numerous charities that are currently active in Haiti; for a comprehensive list, click here.
Meanwhile, in clinical news, a story in our Hygiene Community looks at the growing body of evidence linking poor oral health with increased risk of head and neck cancer.
And in the Coaches Corner, Dr. Allan Stafford says that rather than setting New Year's resolutions that may or may not be achieved, why not consider a New Year's "revolution" instead?
Finally, today is your last chance to vote in the first-ever DrBicuspid Dental Excellence Awards -- voting ends tonight at midnight. Don't miss this opportunity to honor dentistry's best and brightest! Click here to start casting your votes today. The winners will be announced January 25.
