Las Vegas dentists unite against corporate-run practices

A group of 10 independent dentists in Las Vegas have joined forces to protect their businesses following the passage of state legislation that allows corporations to operate dental offices in Nevada without any dentists in the ownership structure, according to a story by Las Vegas Business Press.

Incorporated last month, Dentists United went live this week with TV ads, a toll-free phone number, and Web site, the story reported. The group said it plans to sign deals with major employers, begin purchasing supplies with volume discounts and may set up branches in other cities to bolster competitiveness against large group and corporate-run practices.

"We are doing this to save our jobs, save our careers, save our practices," Dentists United President Kevin Behjat told the Business Press. "A lot of dentists have had to let people go and we are trying to stop that."
