A New York dentist has been indicted on charges of insurance fraud and faces up to seven years in state prison, according to a news story on LoHud.com.
Joanne Baker, D.D.S., 51, is accused of billing Metropolitan Life Insurance for $13,000 in dental services that were never provided to MetLife customers, according to the story. She then created false patient medical records to support the phony bills, prosecutors say.
Several patients have also come forward to confirm that Dr. Baker billed MetLife for dental services she did not provide, according to the report.
The 13-count indictment charges her with grand larceny, insurance fraud, scheme to defraud and falsifying business records.
Dr. Baker is free on $10,000 bail but her dental license has been placed on probation for gross negligence by the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions, the story concludes.
