A dentist in Rome, GA, has designed a quick-release safety seat so kids can be freed in the event of a crash, according to the Rome News Tribune.
Michael Blackmon, D.D.S., first thought of the idea when his own kids were riding in safety seats, he said. He later remembered it when he heard on the radio about someone who couldn't rescue a child from a burning car because of the complicated harness holding the child in her seat.
Dr. Blackmon's design features a handle in back that the child can't reach but that instantly disengages when operated from behind.
