The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted Bauer Energy Design a patent for a special treated-water steam system used to disinfect or sterilize a surface, object, or environment.
The issuance of this patent provides broad patent protection for the company's water and steam vapor processing system, according to Bauer.
"Our system has applications in industry, including healthcare, livestock farms, meat processors, food manufacturers, food service facilities, and schools, as well as in domestic households," said Walter Bauer, president of the company, in a press release.
The patent includes claims to an enhanced type of steam vapor that can effectively kill a broad range of microorganisms within three to five seconds, reduce surface-mediated infection risks, and serve as a green, more effective alternative to chemical disinfectants and steam-autoclaves, according to the company.
