Colorado debates new sedation rules; NHS dentistry mulls a makeover

Faced with strong opposition from the public and the dental community alike, the Colorado State Board of Dental Examiners has delayed imposing new sedation rules that would have required 60 hours of training for dentists practicing "minimal sedation" -- far more than the ADA's recommended 16 hours. In other news, National Health Service (NHS) dentists in the U.K. may be paid by the number of patients they care for and the quality of that care rather than how many procedures they perform, if recommendations from the much-anticipated "Steele report" become reality.
