Ohio has joined the ranks of several other U.S. states struggling with budget crises this year that are electing to slash their Medicaid funding.
With the state facing a $3.2 billion budget shortfall, Gov. Ted Strickland has proposed about $2 billion in cuts, including eliminating Medicaid dental benefits for adults, according to a story in the Columbus Dispatch.
His plan calls for more than 1.1 million of Ohio's poor to lose their dental, vision, and other healthcare coverage. However, administration officials say they will continue to provide these services temporarily because they are confident the state will win a court case that would free up $258 million of tobacco settlement money, according to the Dispatch.
