Most birthday greetings don't start with the word "whereas," but the ADA got one on May 13 from none other than the U.S. Congress.
Congress feted the organization's 150th anniversary this year with a 243-word resolution commending the ADA for its charity and advocacy in the interest of oral health.
The ADA encourages dentists to donate their services, and dental have responded with more than $2 billion in uncompensated care, according to the resolution, adding that "the American Dental Association advocates sufficient funding for federal dental research and military readiness programs."
In his thank you note, ADA President John Findley, D.D.S., responded that, "the ADA has always worked under the assumption that improving the public's health and promoting the interests of dentistry are not mutually exclusive. In fact, one is essential to the success of the other."
