Dentist to give $60K new smile to mocked OU football fan

A dentist in Oklahoma will give a fellow University of Oklahoma (OU) Sooners football fan about $60,000 worth of dental work for free after he located the stranger who was ridiculed online for his missing teeth while cheering at the November 24 game.

After readers began trashing the appearance of Johnny Paul “JP” after a photo of him cheering at the game went viral on the Barstool Sports website, Dr. Brett Francis of Dental Designs of Stroud took to social media to track him down so he could give the guy a new smile, according to the dentist’s Facebook post. His post was liked more than 2,700 times and shared more than 1,500 times.

By November 27, JP, who said he’s had bad teeth since he was 3, was at the dentist’s office getting x-rays and will be getting implants to replace his remaining teeth. The pro bono procedure will not only update his smile but allow him to eat what he likes, according to a story published on November 28 by news9.com.

Francis, who also attended the game, where the Sooners handily beat Texas Christian University’s Horned Frogs 69 to 45, looks forward to giving JP the grin that his personality gives him, he said in the story. JP can’t wait either.

“I’m just gonna have a bigger smile for OU,” JP said in the story. “Don’t judge people by their appearance. Everybody’s got a heart.”
