3D Systems offers new model materials for intraoral scanners

3D Systems, a provider of 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing solutions, has introduced Accura e-Stone, a new family of materials developed specifically to produce digital dental models on its stereolithography systems.

The material is available in two high-contrast colors, peach and green, according to the company.

With newly introduced dental intraoral and impression scanners, 3D Systems believes its stereolithography technology is becoming the industry standard for digital dental model production, having already been selected by 3M and Sirona for integration into proprietary intraoral scanning manufacturing systems. 3M is in full production utilizing this technology and recently produced its 10,000th case of digital dental models on the iPro SLA System, 3D Systems noted.

Accura e-Stone material is designed to produce dental models from data derived from these scanners without pouring traditional stone models, saving time and money for dentists and dental laboratories and reducing infection risks.

Accura e-Stone material is compatible with all intraoral and impression scanning systems that produce a stereolithography (STL) file and are referred to as "open systems." Normal dental lab practices, including drilling, grinding, and waxing, can be used with the material. This material can also be used as a fit-check model for all-digital restorations, according to the company.

"3D Systems' technology can be used to enable labs to produce an all-digital restoration with 3D working models on its stereolithography systems, as well as to produce wax-ups on its ProJet DP3000 systems and direct metal copings and bridges on its Sinterstation Pro DM125 Systems," said Lee Dockstader, vice president of business development at 3D Systems, in a press release. "This variety of solutions will help dental labs to transform their production processes to improve their competitiveness with offshore labs and to augment the productivity of their highly skilled local lab technicians."
