Sescoi joins Prodentic project in France

Sescoi, a CAD/CAM software developer for dental prosthetics, has joined a 30-month government-funded project in France called Prodentic.

Led by the French Union Nationale Patronale des Prothesistes Dentaires and AFNET, an association that promotes common standards in data exchange, the Prodentic project is designed to create a digital process for the design and manufacture of dental prostheses that can be economically implemented by the majority of practitioners. Other project goals include developing a common format for CAD data exchange and achieving full traceability for prosthetic data throughout their entire lifecycle in line with European traceability directives.

The driving force behind the Prodentic project is the need to reduce the cost of dental prostheses in order to counter low-cost competition from overseas, Sescoi said in a press release. Achieving commonality for CAD data exchange between the systems used by dentists, prosthesists, and subcontractors is critical to the success of the project and will ultimately give laboratories greater freedom to choose the solutions that best suit their individual needs, the company noted.

Launched last year, Sescoi's WorkNC Dental is a CAD/CAM software solution for automatic machining of prosthetic appliances, implants, or structures.
