A tooth found in Italy that was originally thought to be part of Neanderthal remains actually belongs to the modern species of Homo sapiens, according to a story on LiveScience.com.
Stefano Benazzi, PhD, from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Germany, and colleagues reanalyzed the tooth, which was originally found inside a cave along with a finger bone and another tooth. Using methods unavailable at the time of the initial analysis, they concluded that the remains are from medieval Italians.
