Barco displays make inroads in dentistry

Image display firm Barco has installed its 24-inch MDRC-2124 clinical review displays at the Center for Dental and Oral Medicine of the University Medical Center Hamburg Eppendorf in Germany.

The institution's Department of Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology performs approximately 13,000 dental radiology examinations per year, including cone-beam 3D tomography studies, Barco said in a press release.

The MDRC-2124 offers DICOM-compliant viewing of clinical data and images, and the displays are continuously calibrated with Barco's MediCal QAWeb to ensure 24/7 DICOM accuracy and uptime, the company noted.

The MDRC displays help visualize concealed anatomic structures such as alveolar bone, the extent of interdental and interradicular bone loss, root length, periodontal ligament space, and apical changes, according to the medical center.

Earlier this year Barco signed a distribution agreement with Benco Dental to distribute its medical displays in the U.S., marking Barco's entry into the dental market.
