Carestream is now shipping its Dryview Chroma imager, which just received marketing clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, to healthcare providers worldwide.
The Dryview printer outputs grayscale and color DICOM images from most digital modalities onto Chroma medical film for diagnosis or Chroma medical paper for use by referring physicians and patients, according to the company.
The imager can print studies from PET/CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, general purpose computed radiography and digital radiography, PACS, and image-enabled electronic medical record (EMR) systems. It also supports dental printing applications. Image processing software is integrated within the DICOM interface for optimized image quality, the company noted.
"Being able to send our referring physicians a structured report that includes a few high-quality color or black-and-white prints of key images, as well as the study CD, is definitely an innovative and value-added service," said Riccardo Dus, MD, chief radiologist at Casa di Cura Sileno e Anna Rizzola in San Donà di Piave, Italy. "A quick glance at these key images is much faster for our referring physicians than inserting and reviewing a complete imaging exam on the CD and avoids software incompatibility issues."
