Sirona begins work on Innovation Center

Construction has begun on a "state-of-the-art" Innovation Center being built by Sirona in Bensheim, Germany, the company announced.

The 8,000-sq-meter facility will house the largest R&D team in the dental industry, a technology training center, and a laboratory, the company said. The building will be serviced by high-capacity digital networks and modern communication systems, which will link the Sirona teams to each other and to external partners around the world.

"The Innovation Center represents a continuation of our investment in research and development," said Jost Fischer, chairman and CEO, in a press release. "Our commitment is underscored by our research and development investment of over $250 million in the last six years, or 6% to 7% of our total revenues."

Housing more than 200 research and development professionals under one roof will ensure the company will maximize collaboration, creativity, technological advancement, and idea sharing, he added.

The inauguration is expected to take place in March 2011 to coincide with the International Dental Show in Cologne.
