SensAble updates CAD/CAM system

SensAble Technologies Friday launched the latest version of its SensAble Dental Lab System (SDLS) and also introduced a new scanner and announced new partnerships.

The new version of the SDLS, an integrated CAD/CAM system for dental restorations, speeds the scan, design, and fabrication processes for partial dentures, crowns, and bridges; provides support for milling; and adds support for impression scanning and the SensAble OpenScan interface, the Woburn, MA-based company said.

The new version also expands SensAble's software intelligence, Intelli-Fit, which automatically compensates for inaccuracies inherent in both digital and manual processes, such as scanning artifacts and physical distortions introduced during fabrication processes.

The enhancements were scheduled to be available by the end of April.

SensAble also unveiled a second, fully integrated scanner option for its SDLS and a new OpenScan software interface. The new scanner supports the scanning of both models and impressions, providing a high degree of flexibility for labs and further time savings, according to the company. The OpenScan interface will be incorporated into the latest release of its software, allowing technicians using the SDLS to import STL files from other open scanners that their labs may already have.

The impression scanner, made by Solutionix, can be used by labs that want to use it for both fixed and removable restorations, the company said. It is scheduled to ship in late April.

SensAble also announced partnerships that will offer fabrication services for milled crowns and bridges in a variety of materials, including zirconia. The partners include Remedent, a Ghent, Belgium-based company that makes cosmetic dentistry products, and Precise Structures Milling Center of Laguna Hills, CA, which operates milling centers in Laguna Hills and Oshawa, Ontario.

The milling centers will fabricate milled restorations directly from files created by the SDLS. SDLS customers will be able to either print 3D resin parts for metal casting or ceramic pressing or order milled substructures or ceramic overstructures from the milling centers.

The milling capabilities will be supported in the forthcoming new release of the SDLS software.
