Cristina Teixeira, DMD, PhD, an associate professor of orthodontics and of basic science and craniofacial biology, has been appointed chair of the department of orthodontics at New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD), effective immediately.
Dr. Teixeira had been serving as the interim chair of the department since September 2011, according to the university.
Dr. Teixeira joined NYUCD in 2001 and has won National Institutes of Health funding and other national and international recognition for research in bone and cartilage biology.
She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she obtained her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, a certificate in orthodontics, a master's in oral biology, and a doctorate in developmental biology.
