A 22-year-old Oregon man who wore braces for 11 years has filed a $185,000 lawsuit against his orthodontist, according to an article in the Oregonian.
According to the lawsuit, filed August 24 in Multnomah County Circuit Court, Devin Bost first visited Brad Chvatal, DDS, in August of 1997 after having his braces placed by a different orthodontist. Periodic visits, although infrequent, took place afterward, and in June 2008 Dr. Chvatal's office abruptly notified Bost that his braces should be removed "immediately," according to the complaint.
Dr. Chvatal claims that 2002, the year he became a licensed orthodontist, is the earliest he could have treated Bost.
Bost said he now requires implants, but the procedure may be difficult or impossible due to decay extending into his jaw. To date, Bost's dental bills have reached $35,000, according to the article.
Bost is seeking $150,000 for pain and suffering, in addition to the cost of his medical expenses.
