An orthodontics practice in Kentucky has raised more than $50,000 for local schools over the last two years through its Partners in Education program.
Beginning in August 2010, Stan Ferguson, DMD, and Ed Tipton, DDS, of Bluegrass Orthodontics in Lexington set out to help the schools where their young patients attended, according to a story in the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Ever since, they have donated $100 for every child and adult patient who started full-braces treatment. The donations are made in the patient's honor to the school of the patient's choice.
As of mid-July, the practice's Partners in Education program had donated $53,500 to schools in Fayette, Bourbon, Jessamine, and surrounding counties, the story noted.
The orthodontists asked school administrators to direct the money to teachers for use in classrooms for needed supplies. But the money also has been used for field trips for students who could not otherwise afford to participate and for school food programs.
