Israel no longer allows dentists to offer Botox

Dentists in Israel have been administering Botox for years, but in a sudden and surprising move, the health ministry has forbidden its use, according to a news story on Ynetnews.com.

The decision came after a request from the Israeli Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, according to the story. Now dentists who have been providing Botox injections have hired an attorney who has asked the ministry to override the request.

"This is a severe impingement on freedom of profession, which discriminates against doctors whose field of specialization is the face. If necessary, we will go all the way to the Supreme Court," the attorney said in the story.

Dr. Amos Leviav, chair of the plastic surgery association, said that dentists do not have enough expertise to inject Botox.
