He also addresses the controversial issues of teeth whitening offered in malls and salons and whether dentists should be allowed to administer Botox.

In other Cosmetics Community news, the removal of orthodontic appliances can reveal corrected teeth but also white-spot lesions. A study presented at the recent American Association for Dental Research (AADR) meeting found that commercially available fluoride toothpaste performs as well as two commonly prescribed fluoride varnishes. Also, while previous studies have speculated that there may be an association between edentulism and worsening obstructive sleep apnea, this new research did not find a link.
And dentists and orthodontists often encounter questions about outcome, cost, and complications of orthognathic surgery, but there is a lack of information about these issues. Another study presented at the AADR meeting mined a national database for answers.
Meanwhile, Botox injections can provide relief to patients who suffer from nocturnal bruxism, or teeth grinding, according to two studies presented last month at the American Academy of Neurology's annual meeting. Read more.
