OraMetrix unveiled the newest version of its SureSmile orthodontic planning technology March 1 at its annual users conference in Grapevine, TX.
The SureSmile system allows the use of precision digital tools throughout all phases of the orthodontic treatment process: diagnosis, treatment planning and monitoring, and archwire customization. The SureSmile scanner creates a 3D image of the mouth, and the software then calculates the most direct route for getting each tooth into the desired position.
With SureSmile 6.0, orthodontists can diagnose cases and plan movement with a thorough understanding of the 3D spatial relationship of tooth roots in the surrounding bone, according to Chuck Abraham, president and CEO of OraMetrix.
"Until now, orthodontists could only estimate how their treatment will affect root positions in the supporting bone," he said.
