Professional surfer Bethany Hamilton has signed on as the official endorser of Ormco Orthodontics's Damon System, an orthodontic treatment that combines patented "tieless" braces with memory wire.
Known for overcoming a horrific shark attack in which she lost an arm, Hamilton has partnered with Ormco to promote the Damon System and encourage teens, children, and adults of all ages to smile through adversity, regardless of the challenges life throws their way.
Hamilton began orthodontic treatment at age 14 for a severe underbite with significant crowding and a narrow arch. She relied on the Damon System instead of traditional braces for her treatment, according to the company.
The light pressure used in the Damon System stimulates broad, natural arch development and typically delivers results up to 25% faster than traditional braces, according to Ormco. The cost of treatment with the Damon System is comparable to that of traditional braces.
In honor of National Orthodontic Health Month, Ormco will donate $1 to the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation for each new "like" of the Damon System Braces Facebook page -- limited to the first 5,000 people who participate through the month of October.
