Michael B. Rogers, DDS, was elected president of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) for 2011-2012 during the AAO's recent annual meeting in Chicago.
In addition, John Buzzatto, DMD, MDS, of Allison Park, PA, was elected president-elect, and Gayle Glenn, DDS, MSD, of Dallas was elected secretary-treasurer.
Dr. Rogers is in private practice in Augusta, GA, and has been active in organized orthodontics and dentistry for many years, including serving on the AAO Board of Trustees since 2002. His past leadership positions include speaker of the House of delegates for both the AAO and the Georgia Dental Association (GDA). In addition, he has been a delegate to the House of Delegates for the ADA, the GDA, and the AAO.
"The AAO will seek to strengthen relationships with our dental colleagues, both general practitioners and specialists, and with professionals outside of dentistry," Dr. Rogers said in a press release. "There is much to be done to assure continued, affordable access to quality dental healthcare delivered by properly educated dental healthcare professionals. Through cooperative efforts in advocacy, dental education, clinical research, and consumer education, all of us in dentistry will have the best opportunities to help the public achieve optimal dental health."
