Orthodent Laboratory is now offering a Web-based software package that allows orthodontists and dentists to design, submit, and manage all of their patients' appliance prescriptions online.
With the company's new easyrx software, doctors now have the ability to use a full suite of designing tools to manage and create their appliances online and make their prescriptions paperless, according to the company.
The user digitally and graphically designs the retainer, then sends the digital prescription to the lab. Since easyrx is integrated into the lab's workflow, the user can see up-to-date information concerning that prescription.
"This is not an ordinary prescription submission process," said Michael Wright, laboratory manager and co-creator of easyrx. "This Web-based application gives doctors the ability to click and drag parts to a Rx custom canvas, pull up template designs, and manipulate them any way they would like. We really think this is one of the stepping stones into the digital age in regards to the doctor/laboratory relationship."
Since this is a Web-based application, doctors can check, design, review, and submit prescriptions from any computer (Mac or PC) that has an Internet connection. They also have access to their prescriptions at anytime across Orthodent's 256-bit secure sockets layer (SSL) encrypted secure server.
Easyrx is fully HIPAA-compliant, so prescriptions can be managed without having to worry about security, Orthodent noted.
