>The American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons (ASMS) has named Steven Buchman, M.D., a professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery and neurosurgery at the University of Michigan Medical School, as its new president.
The announcement was made last week in Toronto at Plastic Surgery 2010, the joint annual scientific meeting of ASMS and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
In addition to his academic appointments as professor, Dr. Buchman is director of the Craniofacial Anomalies Program at the University of Michigan Medical Center and chief of pediatric plastic surgery at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.
Dr. Buchman, who has been practicing for 18 years, received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He trained in general and plastic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and completed a craniofacial fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles.
He will serve as ASMS president for one year.
