NC office raises thousands for violence prevention

Allan Acton, D.D.S., and Cary Family Dental in Cary, NC, recently donated $6,276 to Interact, a private, nonprofit United Way agency that provides safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, the practice announced.

The dental practice has donated more than $15,000 during the last two years while participating in the Crown Council's annual Smiles for Life campaign.

During the four-month campaign, Crown Council members offer teeth-whitening services at a significantly reduced price. Through a unique partnership with entertainer Garth Brooks and his Teammates For Kids Foundation, Smiles for Life guarantees that half of the money raised by Crown Council members goes to children's charities in communities across the U.S.

"The teeth-whitening procedure is quick and painless, with excellent results," Dr. Acton said. "Most important, a few minutes in the chair can make an incredible impact on someone right here in Wake County who desperately needs our help and support."

Interact was formed in the 1980s through the merger of three Wake County agencies: Rape Crisis Center, Women's Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention Services. The resulting agency was known as the Family Violence and Prevention Center and became known as Interact in 1984.

The Smiles for Life Foundation is the children's charity organization of the Crown Council, an organization of dentists throughout the U.S. The Crown Council's Smiles for Life Foundation has raised more than $22 million since 1998 and has benefited nearly 500 U.S. children's charities.

Recently, Cary Family Dental was recognized by the Crown Council for raising more than $65,000 in the last five years for children's charities.
