W.Va. dentist helps victims of domestic violence

A West Virginia dentist is helping survivors of domestic violence with a unique teeth-whitening deal for patients who want to help, too, according to a story in the State Journal.

Kenneth Banks, D.D.S., whose practice is based in the Eastern Panhandle, is taking part in Give Back a Smile, a charitable program that provides cosmetic dental care to those whose teeth have been damaged or lost due to domestic violence.

To raise money for the program, Dr. Banks is offering a deal in which patients who want their teeth whitened can pay $125 to the Give Back a Smile program. Whitening procedures normally cost from $300 to $675, so the offer allows patients the chance to help victims of domestic violence while getting a great deal, according to the story. The cost also includes a follow-up visit.

Dr. Banks also volunteers his services to Give Back a Smile and has provided free care to a woman from northern Virginia who needs 14 veneers. The project, which is offered through the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation, soon may begin helping children who have experienced domestic violence as well, the Journal reported.
