OrthoAccel Technologies has announced commercial plans for the U.K. that entail "considerable business activity and economic impact," the company said in a press release.
In 2009, OrthoAccel hired a director of sales based in Wales, and this year the company launched its AcceleDent system to the U.K. market during the British Orthodontic Conference.
AcceleDent is a removable dental device that patients place in the mouth for 20 minutes daily. It produces a vibrational force that enhances the pressure applied by braces, thus speeding orthodontic tooth movement, according to the company.
"We view the U.K. as a very important strategic market," said Mike Lowe, CEO of OrthoAccel. "We anticipate continued investment in a country that we consider a critical entry point into the European Union region. In addition to our sales and marketing investment, we are currently conducting analysis as to the most effective way of establishing a corporate presence and true legal entity in the U.K."
The company is in the process of partnering with a dental hospital to conduct a clinical trial in the U.K. as early as 2011 and anticipates concluding another U.S. clinical trial at the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio this year, according to Mike Kaufman, vice president of marketing and business development for OrthoAccel.
