Cosmetic dentist calls extreme makeovers risky

After almost 25 years in the profession, Michael Zuk, D.D.S., has become an outspoken critic of the cosmetic dental industry, especially those dentists he says take advantage of the public's desire for perfect teeth.

Now he's published a book, Confessions of a Former Cosmetic Dentist, detailing what he believes makes extreme smile makeovers risky.

"I think there are a lot of dentists who wouldn't trust someone who considers him/herself a cosmetic dental expert," he stated in a press release announcing the book. "The porcelain veneer has become a magical cure-all for crooked teeth, gaps, wrinkles, and headaches. Many of these procedures are expensive, irreversible, and when used inappropriately, can be harmful to the patients. I'm calling out to aggressive cosmetic dentists and exposing why I think some of them can be a danger to the public who mistakenly believes the hype."

The book took about a year for Dr. Zuk to write and is available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
