A West Virginia woman is suing a Charleston dentist claiming the impressions he took in preparation for a bridge caused serious complications and considerable follow-up dental work, according to a story in the West Virginia Record.
Linda Johnson was seen by Ernest Pennington, D.D.S., in January 2008, according to a complaint filed June 25 in Kanawha County Circuit Court. She claims the material he used to make the impressions caused an infection in her gums and related complications. As a result, Johnson alleges, the bridge fit improperly and left roots exposed.
Johnson went to another dentist, Richard Smith, D.D.S., in February 2009, who told her the work Dr. Pennington performed could be malpractice, according to the complaint.
Johnson alleges that, as a result of Dr. Pennington's "negligence," she has had to have teeth removed, painful procedures performed, and considerable other work done. She is seeking compensatory damages, according to the Record.
