Biolux to present accelerated orthodontic study results at IADR

Biolux Research will present results from its accelerated orthodontics research program next month at the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) meeting in Barcelona, Spain.

Principal investigator Alpdogan Kantarci, D.D.S., Ph.D., an associate professor of periodontology and oral biology at Boston University, will share findings from a study that examined the effects of noninvasive photobiomodulation on tooth movement in an animal model. Effects of treatment on quantity of tooth movement, including both tipping and bodily movement, and the quality of bone regeneration will be discussed, according to Biolux.

Significant acceleration of tooth movement, three to five times faster compared to controls, was achieved in the study, according to the company.

"The study results demonstrate the efficacy of photobiomodulation-facilitated orthodontic tooth movement at the biological level," Dr. Kantarci said in a press release. "The experimental model used in this study clearly shows that photobiomodulation increases the magnitude and rate of the tooth movement compared to the conventional technique in vivo."

Dr. Kantarci and colleagues at Boston University are now focusing on translating these findings to human clinical trials.
