Since the introduction of the first home-use product in 1989, teeth whitening has become a multibillion-dollar business. Today, a dizzying array of home teeth-whitening products are available to consumers -- along with just as many opinions about the safety of these products when left in the hands of those determined to make their teeth as white as they can possibly be.
In a presentation at the Yankee Dental Congress in Boston, Dorothy Vannah, R.D.H., of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine offered dental professionals some practical advice on how to help patients avoid the pitfalls they often face on the path to aesthetic nirvana. In other clinical news, few dentists currently use all-resin-composite crowns, but new studies -- including one that will be presented at the International Association for Dental Research annual meeting in July -- suggest they may actually be more durable than all-ceramic crowns.
