A survey has found that Nicorette White Ice Mint not only helps ease tough cravings and withdrawal symptoms, but also helps whiten teeth, according to a press release from GlaxoSmithKline, which manufactures the gum.
The survey of 327 U.S. smokers, conducted by Richard Day Research of Evanston, IL, in September 2008, found that 49% of those surveyed said the yellowing of their teeth strongly contributes to their decision to quit smoking. Further, 68% of smokers younger than age 35 are especially concerned about the effects of smoking on their teeth, and 82% of them want to quit smoking because of it. In addition, 72% of those surveyed believe a quit-smoking product with teeth-whitening benefits will encourage them so they can quit for good.
"What is interesting about this survey is that while smokers are well aware of the health risks, appealing to their vanity may actually help to push them into action and to decide to quit," said Dr. Catrise Austin, founder and director of VIP Smiles in New York City, said in the press release.
