The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued two new patents to Biolase Technology related to its Waterlase, ezlase, and iLase products.
Patent No. 7,817,687, Electromagnetic Energy Distribution for Electromagnetically Induced Mechanical Cutting, is related to the core Waterlase YSGG technology, while patent No. 7,815,630, Target-Close Electromagnetic Energy Emitting Device, is related to its ezlase and iLase diode laser technology.
The first patent extends the Waterlase technology patent family related specifically to the unique combination of laser wavelength, pulse shape characteristics and fluid spray for the ablation of hard tissue with optimum efficiency and extends into embodiments that protect Biolase for future generations of hard-tissue lasers, noted Dmitri Boutoussov, Ph.D., chief technology officer, in a press release.
The second patent is a broad patent that covers the company's current diode laser designs; disposable, bendable tips; pulse technology; and various ergonomic configurations for portable diode lasers, he added.
With the two new patents, Biolase now has 142 issued patents, with 144 more pending, according to the company.
