Komet has introduced a new disk/handpiece system designed for cosmetic dentistry and orthodontic procedures for proper interproximal enamel reducing and finishing.
Developed in conjunction with Dr. Paul-Georg Jost-Brinkmann of the Berlin Charité Dental Hospital in Germany, the OS (oscillating segment) disk is the first of its kind in the dental industry, according to the company.
OS disks are safe and efficient for interproximal enamel reduction and are more effective than manual enamel reduction, with virtually no risk of injuring soft tissue, according to Komet. The disks are 60° segmented with a radius of 1.4 cm and a pivoting angle of 30°, allowing access into tight spaces with excellent user control. In addition, they allow enough vision for the user without the need of a disk guard and provides optimal chip removal, Komet said.
The OS disks are designed to be used in the oscillating Komet electric handpiece OS30. When using the micromotor at full capacity, an effective performance of 5,000 oscillations per minute is reached, Komet noted.
