A personal injury law firm has filed a lawsuit against Procter & Gamble on behalf of a Texas woman who claims that she was diagnosed with neuropathy after using Fixodent denture adhesive cream.
The lawsuit is the latest of several filed by Parker Waichman Alonso on behalf of users of zinc-containing denture creams, according to a firm press release.
According to this latest complaint, Barbara Ann Floyd, 48, received dentures several years ago and has used Fixodent.Floyd stopped using the denture adhesive cream in September 2008 after she was diagnosed with neuropathy caused by excess zinc, resulting copper depletion.
She now suffers from "profound and permanent neurological injuries, which have left her unable to perform hernormal, customary, and daily activities," according to the complaint. The lawsuit alleges that Procter & Gamble misled consumers about the product`s risks and failed to provide adequate warnings about the zinc in Fixodent or adequate instructions to preventdeviation from accepted use. It also alleges that Fixodent contains a form of zinc, which is bonded to an unknown formulation.
Floyd`s lawsuit, along with dozens of others filed before it, has been consolidated for centralized and coordinated pretrial proceedings in the Denture Cream Products Liability Litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Miami Division.
