Digident launches iPad app for cosmetic dentistry

Digident has launched Smile Guide Touch, a mobile application for the iPad designed to help a patient determine which cosmetic improvements he or she is seeking.

Created by Digident founder David Traub, DMD, a Florida cosmetic dentist, and developed by GWHQ Productions in Dallas, the app lets dentists compose the ideal smile using patients' descriptions of their preferred tooth shape and smile line character, according to the company.

The user can modify the shape and length of the teeth using the touchscreen, as high-resolution photographs display the subtle variances. As the features change, the patient's selections guide the evolution of the smile design, creating a blueprint for the shape and smile line of the teeth.

Once the patient has finalized his or her desired smile design, the dentist can create a virtual prescription to send to a lab and provide to the patient. The prescription can be printed from the app or sent via email as a PDF with a photo of the desired tooth shapes and details about the selected Smile Design Code, providing detailed directives for the chosen smile design as a guide for wax-ups, provisionals, and final ceramics.
