Voters in six U.S. cities chose to retain community water fluoridation and another city opted to restart fluoridation in the recent elections.
The fluoridation votes affect some 73,000 residents nationwide, according to an ADA News story.
Voters in Albany, WI, approved continuing their fluoridation program 76% to 24% in a nonbinding referendum.
Boyne City and Bronson in Michigan both overwhelmingly approved fluoridation measures, according to a boynegazette.com story.
Residents of Kalama in southwest Washington also voted to keep fluoride in their drinking water, according to an Associated Press story.
In addition, Salina, KS, and Healdsburg, CA, voted to continue fluoridating their water supplies.
Georgia voters in two communities south of Atlanta chose different results in ballot measures. Richland, GA, voted to restart their fluoridation program after a break of about five years, but the Unified Government of Webster County (Preston and Weston, GA) voted to stop fluoridating water supplies.
